NCRIS

The Australian Government is committing $50 million through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) to facilitate the provision of specialist services that support bio-molecular research.

Managed through a new co-ordinating body, BioPlatforms Australia Ltd (BPA), this investment will help deliver services through four specialist platforms: Genomics Australia (GA), Proteomics Australia (PA), Metabolomics Australia (MA) and the Australian Bioinformatics Facility (ABF). The goals are to create a world-class service capability that encourages synergies between the omics disciplines, reinforcing international recognition for Australian bio-molecular research capability.

AGRF will play a leadership role within Genomics Australia by continuing to build its national high throughput, state of the art genomic service capability. This will be complemented by a regional transcriptomics network and the implementation of new tools, particularly in the area of epigenomics and microarray generation.

Under the umbrella of BPA, it is anticipated that the demand for a broad range of quality omics services will increase. The importance of bioinformatics in maximising the benefit of these services is recognised and appropriate funds and expertise have been made available to support and grow this capability.

AGRF will continue to support its clients by offering a range of services backed by the very latest knowledge and technology. By focusing on customers and tailoring solutions to fit their specific needs, AGRF will seek to maximise its contribution to major research programmes. The close links with other members of GA and the wider BPA service community will encourage the development of complete service solutions to meet complex research requirements.
