In 2021, we’re excited to launch our ‘AGRF Live & On Demand’ webinar series. We enjoyed the series so much last year (and it looks like you did too!) so we’ve decided to continue it this year and open it up to a wider range of topics so that there’s something for everyone.

You can join the event ‘Live’ and interact with the speaker, or you can choose to watch it here ‘On Demand’ whenever you have time.

Conservation in the Age of Genomics

Dr Carolyn Hogg from the University of Sydney presented a talk titled ‘Conservation in the Age of Genomics’, about her vital bilby and woylie conservation research,

AGRF was the first organisation in Australia to receive a PacBio Sequel II system and Dr Hogg’s samples were processed in our very first Sequel II run. In addition to this important milestone, Dr Hogg has some fascinating stories that have underpinned her research.

Somatic Mutation: The Hidden Genetics of Epilepsy

Assoc. Prof. Michael Hildebrand presented a compelling webinar based on his research into focal epilepsies (FE), the most common group of epilepsies, which account for ~60% of all cases. Learn about somatic mutation, how mutations of the Sonic Hedgehog Pathway underlie Hypothalamic Hamartoma with Gelastic Epilepsy, and why Assoc. Prof. Hildebrand believes the first step towards rational precision medicine treatments for FE, targeting the underlying neurobiological basis of seizures, is precision diagnosis for individual patients.

Genetic Testing for Health & Wellness

Cristina Fortuno presented a talk on genetic testing for health and wellness and outlined her experience using Global Screening Arrays. She also shared some ways you can use genomics to improve your health and wellness via new genetic screening tools. Cristina is strongly motivated by the use of genomics in health care, as a tool to improve diagnosis, deliver personalised interventions, or find out more about an individual’s predisposition to certain health traits.

PacBio HiFi Sequencing: A New Era of Genomic Discovery

Hear about our AGRF-UQ PacBio Sequel II Service, Australia's first PacBio Sequel II service, which delivers even more highly accurate long reads to accelerate your science. Featuring a great panel of speakers, from The University of Queensland, AGRF and PacBio on their experiences with the PacBio systems and the new HiFi reads, talks include ‘Are Dinoflagellate Genomes the Final Frontier?’ by Dr CX Chan, ‘Applications of Long and Accurate Hi-Fi Sequencing with PacBio Sequel II’ by Dr Khi Pin and more.
